Hype-eschatology or the “COVID-19 game”: transformation of religious conscience

This article analyzes the recently observed transformation of religious conscience. The author believes that these changes are most obvious during period global crises, such as COVID-19 pandemic. suggests optimal perspective for examination conscience s consists in analysis through prism eschatological problematic. Eschatology manifests an indicator religiousness, which is substantiated by actualization apocalyptic moods context civilizational crises. Methodological framework this research comprised system-structural and functional approaches, allowed resolving set tasks broad interdisciplinary context, including experience philosophy, theology sociology. leans on results several sociological dedicated to dynamics youth value orientations were conducted over from 1997 2020. empirical material contains data social media ad Vkontakte, Facebook Instagram, messenger (Telegram), video hosting platform (YouTube). highlights a number basic ideas viewed within eschatology Abrahamic religions (namely Christian eschatology). Firstly, private eschatology, reflected attitude towards one's own death related questions afterlife retribution. Secondly, belief arrival Messiah; and, thirdly, expected end history time. These developed viral shedding COVID-19. meticulously how theme mainstreams conditions pandemic self-isolation regime. conclusion made manifestations characterized game nature, tendency hype, focus individual experiences, shift higher collective culture, expressed effect carnivalization consciousness, transfer problematic sociopolitical plane.
